De-Stress your Year End!

Are you feeling stressed?  Of course you are not alone.

Here are some quick ways to improve your condition if you are feeling upset or unfocused. There are many ways to destress, we have included a variety.

  1. Grab a co-worker and go for a walk. You can even have a “walking meeting”. Getting outside will help your mood. If you take the whole team out, everyone will feel better. Bundle up and remember to move your arms when you walk and look at all the trees, buildings and details you can. Focus at a distance and up close. A walk is a great way to stimulate your brain and calm your thoughts.
  2. Say thank you more. Sometimes realizing that others are struggling too will help you cope. They may have a solution for you. Your acknowledgment of their hard work helps both of you.
  3. Try a little yoga, body movement, breathing. Shaking your shoulders and roling your neck gently also will undo the kinks. Here are a few more ideas: http://www.womansday.com/Articles/Health/Video-4-Holiday-Stress-Busting-Moves.html
  4. Make sure you are eating well. If you have just had a cookie and a cup of coffee for breakfast then you know why your heart is pounding! To undo bad food choices, get a more balanced snack or an apple and drink a glass of water. You’ll start to feel better, when you consider what you put into your body really affects your productivity.
  5. Get more sleep. Try for 8 hours. During the winter and holidays your sleep may be disrupted. Try to relax before bedtime, turn off the TV well in advance of sleep. You’ll notice a difference.
  6. Many people experience SAD, seasonal affective disorder. They may not know what is happening but feel unhappy, sad, moody, unfocused or angry. Try getting a little more sunlight into your day, we are back to the first suggestion, talk a walk in the daytime and see if it helps you relax and feel better.
  7. Try a NEWS “black out”. Does the nightly news wreck you mood? Try reading news instead of viewing news. Or limit the time. Or get excerpts from the internet. Or you can go all the way, try a news blackout. No news for a week. The world won’t end, you’ll have missed a few important things but if they are ongoing you’ll know about them soon enough!

I get my information from industry research and things that are posted from reliable sources. Stress is a huge problem and affects our performance at work and at home. I really stress getting outside and getting active for teams that work indoors. It makes a huge difference. Best to you.
